Typhoon FMOG Lithograph 2024.

Squadron Prints Lithograph No. 1759 - ZJ913 'FM-G', Typhoon FGR4, 29 Squadron, RAF Coningsby.

No. 29 Squadron formed at Gosport on 7 November 1915. The Squadron moved to France in 1916 and during the early years, equipped with DH2s and Nieuport Scouts, was engaged mainly in escort duties to protect vulnerable reconnaissance aircraft over the Western Front.

In 1918, now flying SE5As, the Squadron undertook fighter and ground attack missions. The Squadron converted to Blenheims in 1938 and at the outbreak of World War II used these aircraft for patrols over shipping, and early trials with airborne radar. In June 1940, the Squadron was involved in the fight to counter German night bombing raids, and eventually began to receive Beaufighters. Its defensive role maintained after conversion to Mosquitoes in 1943 but in May 1944 intruder missions began and continued until 1945. In October 1945, the Squadron moved to West Malling to become part of the peacetime night-fighter force in the UK.

The first Typhoon was delivered to the Squadron on 23 June 2004. On 1 July 2005, the Squadron took its new aircraft back home to Coningsby to become the Typhoon Operational Conversion Unit. The Squadron officially reformed on 4 November 2005, almost 90 years after it originally formed.

The Typhoon Display Team
The Typhoon Display Team consists of ground crew specialising in Mechanical Engineering, Avionics and Weapons Systems backed by support and management teams drawn by 29 Squadron.

For the 2024 season the RAF Typhoon Display Team have revealed a newly painted display aircraft, nicknamed ‘Moggy’. The aircraft paint scheme includes features that commemorate D-Day, with 2024 being the 80th Anniversary of the allies invading Europe. The aircraft is painted in a 1944 era ‘Day Fighter’ scheme that remembers a Hawker Typhoon of 257 Squadron, FM-G. On D-Day this aircraft was flown by Pilot Officer Denzel Jenkins.

Bold features, including the RAF Tactical Recognition Flash and the D-Day invasion features, bring heaps of heritage to the display team this year.

The display aircraft ZJ913, show in this lithograph will be a regular at airshows around the UK in 2024. Flight Lieutenant Turnbull from 29 Squadron RAF will be the display pilot for 2024.
