He had many friends and would do anything to help anyone. He was the perfect impression of a pilot – he was Born to Fly, a true inspiration to colleagues, friends and family alike and will be sorely missed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eDue to the pausing of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s flying operations, its place in the flypast was taken up by three additional Typhoons from 29 Squadron based at RAF Coningsby. The lead Typhoon, the 2024 Typhoon Display aircraft, was flown by Royal Auxiliary Air Force pilot, Squadron Leader Andy “Milli” Millikin, MBE, who was performing his very last Typhoon flight. The Squadron moved to France in 1916 and during the early years, equipped with DH2s and Nieuport Scouts, was engaged mainly in escort duties to protect vulnerable reconnaissance aircraft over the Western Front.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1918, now flying SE5As, the Squadron undertook fighter and ground attack missions. The Squadron converted to Blenheims in 1938 and at the outbreak of World War II used these aircraft for patrols over shipping, and early trials with airborne radar. In June 1940, the Squadron was involved in the fight to counter German night bombing raids, and eventually began to receive Beaufighters. Its defensive role maintained after conversion to Mosquitoes in 1943 but in May 1944 intruder missions began and continued until 1945. In October 1945, the Squadron moved to West Malling to become part of the peacetime night-fighter force in the UK. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe first Typhoon was delivered to the Squadron on 23 June 2004. On 1 July 2005, the Squadron took its new aircraft back home to Coningsby to become the Typhoon Operational Conversion Unit. The Squadron officially reformed on 4 November 2005, almost 90 years after it originally formed. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Typhoon Display Team \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe Typhoon Display Team consists of ground crew specialising in Mechanical Engineering, Avionics and Weapons Systems backed by support and management teams drawn by 29 Squadron. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor the 2024 season the RAF Typhoon Display Team have revealed a newly painted display aircraft, nicknamed ‘Moggy’. The aircraft paint scheme includes features that commemorate D-Day, with 2024 being the 80th Anniversary of the allies invading Europe. The aircraft is painted in a 1944 era ‘Day Fighter’ scheme that remembers a Hawker Typhoon of 257 Squadron, FM-G. On D-Day this aircraft was flown by Pilot Officer Denzel Jenkins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBold features, including the RAF Tactical Recognition Flash and the D-Day invasion features, bring heaps of heritage to the display team this year.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe display aircraft ZJ913, show in this lithograph will be a regular at airshows around the UK in 2024.
